I might be able to swing this card in my current build by buying a better Power Supply. The problem is my PSU wont support the GEFORCE GTX 980

Currently I'm running:
Gigabyte Technology Motherboard
Diablotek 500w power supply (PROBLEM ONLY HAS 1 6(+2) pin adapter)
AMD A10-6800k processor
EVGA GTX 750 TI
8GB RAM

Proposed Solution to accomodate GTX 980:
Purchase a Thermaltake 500w PSU with 2 8 pin adapters
Re hook everything up to the PSU

Does this sound feasible? I know the AMD A10 will bottleneck the 980 but until i can afford an intel i7 im hoping to proposed solution will work. Let me know!

+Dalton_Klein Another solution is to buy a GTX 1060 6GB instead, to achieve similar performance. The one listed in my profile only requires a single 6 pin PCI connector. Regardless I'd personally upgrade the power supply to a better quality unit for good measure, but the point is that you could run my single fan 1060 card off a single 6 pin connector, and you'd have similar performance, consuming less power and one generation newer architecture.

Alright I purchased the 620w Seasonic PSU
It should arrive next week. I will hook everything up and post how it goes. After selling the old parts, if this all works, it was a super cheap way to update my build for the better.

Thank you for this idea. I already purchased a better PSU so hopefully everything works and I'll be set.
Worst case scenario it doesn't work, I'll have to return both items and I'll try the single fan GTX 1060 cause its around the same price as the 980.

This is Dalton. So I got the Seasonic 620w power supply. I got the old PSU out, hooked the new one up to the MOBO, AMD-A10, Hard Drive, and new graphics card. When I try to boot the whole thing up all the fans spin for 2 seconds then the whole things shuts off and nothing runs. I checked to make sure I didnt miss plugging something back in. I sure hope my MOBO isnt the problem. I cant afford to buy a whole new computer haha.

So I replugged everything, no change. Plugged in just mobo, PSU, CPU, 1 ram. No change.

Further update. Plugged in old power supply. Computer boots normally. Wtf! Tried new PSU again, this time at a different outlet, still no boot. I don't get it I bought the PSU brand new any advice appreciated!

Sounds like a DOA PSU which is rare(especially with the higher end brands) but unfortunately it does happen. Contact the place you purchased it from and setup a return or exchange.

+Dalton_Klein Just to be clear, when you say "no change", what precisely does that mean? With the new power supply, does the computer turn on and you see the BIOS splash screen, but Windows does not boot? Or you turn on the computer and absolutely nothing happens? If the former, than I would suggest that you check the BIOS menu and disable secure boot. Also, was this a prebuilt computer (e.g. HP, Dell) or was this previously built for you? If prebuilt, what is the precise manufacturer and model number?

Addendum: A dead PSU can definitely happen, but I just feel that there is a piece of the puzzle that we're missing here.

I will post the exact model of the motherboard when I get home.
Anyway I think I f**ked myself by going to bestbuy, getting a new PSU, plugging it all in and trying to turn it on. Now absolutely nothing happens, the fans no longer spin for a second and nothing lights up. I plugged in my old PSU and absolutely nothing happens now.
I believe my motherboard is fried now, I hope it didnt ruin all my other components. What a nightmare. I am buying a new MOBO and hopefully salvaging as many components as I can on a complete new build I guess....

when I tested out the seasonic PSU, lights uld turn on for a second en everything would shut off. I plugged my old PSU in and then my computer booted normally to windows. That led me to believe I got a faulty PSU from seasonic. So thats when I got the idea to go to bestbuy and thats when fried my mobo with an EVGA 600w PSU. ):
