My NIC (Killer Ethernet E2200, built into a Z87-G45 Gaming motherboard) does not want to connect properly to any ethernet network. I will get a highly unstable speed even though i am on a gigabit capable network with a e5 cable and a 120 mbps download speed. Right now i am at a LAN event and the issue persists even though i'm supposed to have 1gbps download speed here.

I have ruled out the cable as i have swapped it out and it gives the same speed. I have updated the drivers and used old drivers and used atheros drivers which just remove the killer ethernet control panel. None of these changed anything.

When going into:
"network and sharing center>change adapter settings>Ethernet>Properties>Configure>Advanced>Speed & Duplex"
I can change the setting from Auto negotiation to 100mbps Full Duplex it wont connect at all and my ethernet status will claim that the cable is not connected, as do the lights on the back of the pc (they are turned off completely) the switch i'm connected to blinks a orange light. If i set the speed 10mbps Full Duplex i have no issues connecting but my speed has a VERY clear limit set at exactly 10 mbps, it wont go any faster.

I will gladly supply any other info and/or download software for diagnostics or finding details about the problem.

My current driver installer is named "KillerSuite_1.1.65.1752_Win7_Win81_Win10.exe" which is the most recent driver from killernetworking.com .

I have restarted my pc multiple times, checked for driver overlap, checked BIOS to see if there is a port issue and some other things i just cant remember since i have been trying to solve this for about 4 hours now.

Any and all help is appreciated a lot.

Thanks in advance.

I see killer is up to no good again. They used to have a driver that does not have the killer features in it.

They have removed it and now appear to only have their magic all in one drivers that even include wireless support. This is the driver you are using

Hard to say what to do. Try to find the older drivers or maybe raw atheros drivers that the 2200 is based off of. The older killer driver that did not have the killer support was called 1.0.750. It appears all these files have been removed from the common driver sources.

No they still exist under "other drivers" and i tried that, qualcomm has removed the link for their alternative driver that is supposed to work with the same chipset. I tried the stripped down driver and its just the same over again.

You want to leave the setting on auto. You can really only set it if you can also set the port on the switch/router. If you set one to manual setting and the other is auto you get inconsistent results.

You should be able to tell if it negotiates to 1g either from the lights or from nic screens. Hard to say what to do when drivers are suspect. The best testing tool is old tool called iperf. It should get in the 900mbit range testing between 2 machines on a switch.

I already did. That is what it was on by default. The lights were green indicating a gbit connection, but i still got the very shaky 3mbps. Thats the problem im having.

My port is loose. For anyone else that has this issue try to temporarily press the ethernet cable into the socket while performing a speed test. If the problem is fixed you might have the same issue as me. I'm guessing the best solution is a new NIC or a new mobo that has a NIC built in. (And just like duct tape until the card/board arrives)

(edit: idk how to pick this as the solution)
