So my cpu is AMD FX-8350 black edition. I recently overclocked my hd radeon 7970 gpu to 1070mhz core clock, and 1575mhz memory. I also wanted to overclock my CPU, but I have no idea how to do it and the guides that I do find just confuse me. Thanks for any help.

Solution

    ■ Find out how high voltage your build can handle, leave speed adjustment but raise voltage related tweaks, you'll know what numbers that your CPU+RAM+VGA+PSU could handle, if the later highest voltage will be unstable (freeze, stutter, restart/shutdown) then the previous voltage preset is your chosen preset.
    ■ Maximize your cooling capacity = case airflow (air cooling) or bigger and faster radiator and fans (water cooling). After you had chosen voltage preset then max out your = fans speed > placement of fans > thermal grease and cold plate.
    ■ AMD CPU tweaking more like "cooler's dependent" so the budget you will spend to get high MHz is almost near a FX 9xxx price tag, I suggest you consider highest AMD CPU (if your motherboard...

Raise the multiplier in the BIOS by 1, reboot and start stress testing for a few hours. If a BSOD occurs raise the voltage by 0.025 and try again. Once it doesn't crash, raise the multiplier again by 1 and stress test again.

Repeat until your CPU just doesn't overclock anymore, or temperatures are going higher than 75C while stress testing.

do not EVER hit 75c on the fx 8350, AMD has a much lower max temp.
Thermal Limits
CPU Core - 62 Celsius
CPU Socket - 72 Celsius

Voltage Limits
- CPU Manual Voltage 1.55v

and to overclock a 8350 you need a very good motherboard if you dont want to fry your VRMS on the motherboard
overclocking the 8350 is a whole different ballgame compared to intel, much relies on the motherboard.

Here it is: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
Weird It didnt show the first time. What do you think? Could I OC the CPU to like 4.5 ghz? As already mentioned I have OCED my gpu abit, and I do only have a powersupply of: XFX Core Edition 550W PSU
What do you think about this?

do you know what revision it is? is it 1.1 or 2.0 or 3.0? and make sure your bios is fully updated too
depending on what revision it is will depend on how far you can go cause that later revision has heatsinks on the VRM's which is needed to keep them cool.
even then i think its a 4+1 power phase which isnt very good for the fx8350, id say you can get 4.4ghz out of it, if you want more you would probably need a better motherboard.

EDIT: after looking at some youtube videos you maybe could get some more mhz, go to youtube and type "gigabyte ga-970a-ud3 overclock" in and there are some decent videos to follow.

    ■ You already use high watts for R7970, I estimate your peak consumption is ~ 419 watt (+1HDD+5fans+1SSD with 80% efficiency PSU you are drawing ~ 503 watt from your home power). I strongly include high efficient PSU (titanium 80+) such as corsair AX or Seasonic SSR Prime on your next upgrade.
    ■ You can get better learning curve by going to video tutorial, mainly about multiplier increase > Vcore increase > FSB:DRAM ratio. So open your BIOS and ask us "what is this sub menu for"
