I recently purchased a generic 550w power supply for my PC. It says its a replacement for delta dps-300ab-73b. Is this a safe power supply to use?

Generic PSUs are usually (very) poor quality and often fail within a year or two even under light use. Some exceptionally bad PSUs, such as many Diablotek models, tend to destroy multiple components in the PC they are installed in when they do fail. Even worse, Diablotek PSUs often seem to still "work fine" after destroying a PC and end up destroying replacement parts people put in their PC before realizing that the PSU is actually defective.

Why not just add the post to the question. I'm sure a post with merge soon.

However, I would advise NOT TO use a generic card, especailly with a GPU. You try to do intensive things, and there goes your components, or power supply. If you can, invest in a Corsair, EVGA, or SeaSonic as they tend to be top brands. There are others, but those 3 stand out. If you can, return it, and get a better one if you plan on gaming.

Question from Benny49 : "Power supply for gaming"

Corsair PSUs are pretty reliable and top mounting a PSU isn't hard. Do you have any idea how much power you need?

It is for a micro atx case, yes. I'm looking for at least a 600w (500 minimum but preferably 600) PSU.

My specs are:

HP ProDesk 400 G3 Microtower PC - Intel® Core™ i7-6700 3.4GHz, 1TB 7200RPM HDD, 8GB RAM, Intel® HD Graphics, 8x USB Ports, 1x VGA, Win 7 Pro 64bit - T4L76UT#ABA

You don't say what the GPU is. If you are using the IGP, then a good quality 250W PSU would be all that you need. Those are quite rare and tend to be expensive though, so most people opt for something in the 400-550 range instead, such as the Seasonic S12/M12-II series or equivalent.
