I recently got deal on a Samsung 850 EVO. It's brand new, with stickers and chops. But it's $60 off retail price.I added that to a external SSD case of an unknown brand (Qicent) that dosen't have great reviews on Amazon. Yet, I'm supposedly getting 273MB/s and 304MB/s on write/read speeds on XBench. They pretty much match speeds from online reviews.

It's very unsettling and I wonder if they are more tools I could use to measure the performance of it. I am using a MacBook Pro and Samsung Magician does not run on it. GeekBench is expensive to purchase and I'm limited to softwares that run on the Mac.

It certainly is! But I had trouble downloading it from the AppStore last night (went through multiple re downloads) and had an even harder time opening it. Not sure if it's legitimate.

All tests seems to point I got lucky. Let me know if they are more thorough tests I could put it through.

The read speeds seem low, does your system use gen 2 SATA? If so, the result is good. On my laptop using gen 3 my 850 evo is pulling 550MB/s

Reread and see you are using external, USB2 60MB/s, USB3 640MB/s or eSATA gen2 300MB/s or gen3 600MB/s? Looks like your speed is good for eSATA gen2.

It's supposedly USB C (5Gbps). I do believe the Samsung 850 EVO is real. Just wondering on the overhead and quality of the external casing.

Blackmagic Disk Speed Test shows 412MB/s and 425 MB/s for write/read speeds. Drastically different from Xbench. Was wondering if there's a good software to test it on the MacBook Pro.

Might use it for an External Windows 10 drive.
