I've put together a new pc based around a z170 k3 motherboard (gigabyte) and an i7700k. I was going to go with a 6700k but they were out of stock. Case is nzxt h440.

I'm using vengeance 3200 ddr4 (2x8gb).

Case is powering up and fans are firing up. Motherboard is lit up with its LED strips and ram (led) is lit up also but the sticks flash on and off alternately. As the h440 has no speaker I can't hear any errors.

Tower doesn't cut out or turn off.

I have tried dvi signal from gtx 1060 - powered up ok fan spinning, and direct from motherhood. Nothing. Removed 1060, still no signal from board. Tried hdmi from board.

Both power cables from psu connected to board.

I'm suspecting the ram or the processor. Would l be getting the board lit up, etc. If the cpu was faulty?

Have tried moving ram, using one stick at a time but no difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions before l have a breakdown in a quiet room somewhere?

Aargh, I was under the impression l could get at least into the bios to update and had put version F21 onto a USB ready.

Is this right then that without flashing beforehand hand with say an i6700k, that I won't even get into the bios?

What would you guys suggest is easiest way forward? Put in a z270 board?

If l get a Pentium G4400 would that run with my vengeance ram? And l could then flash the bios?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks , l will give the G4400 a try as it will save having to strip everything down.

Should have gone with the i6700k l guess. Board had arrived a week ago and amazon were waiting for more cpu stock :(

Just wanted to say thanks for the support.

The humble G4400 arrived today, put it in and was able to get straight into the BIOS.

Updated to latest version (F21) and put the i7700K back in and system is flying.

Makes a change going from an AMD A8 3870K let me tell you!
