I'm looking for suggestions to build my first gaming rig and I'm on a budget of $700.

Here's what I want so far. (I haven't bought this yet, still browsing)

CPU: i5 4460 3.2 GHz Quad core
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2Gb
Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-02
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB HDD

I'm new to this so I'm kind of stuck on what motherboard/power supply/ memory to get that would be compatible with the hardware I want.

You've got old tech in your list there.

You should be looking at an i5-7400 and a GTX 1050 Ti. Maybe a B250 or H270 motherboard. You could even consider an i3-7350K, except that you would need a Z270 motherboard and an aftermarket cooler to overclock it, so it would be more expensive IF you wanted to overclock it. It may be as fast as the 7400 at stock speed though.

If you get a 7th-gen Kaby Lake CPU and motherboard, I would get some Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400 memory to go with it. You can build you list here at https://pcpartpicker.com/ to find the cheapest prices online.

As far as a power supply, I went with an EVGA 500B which is fine for a non-overclocked Intel/Nvidia system. But now that I'm overclocking I'm looking for a...

Yeah I realized that it was older tech when I did more research after posting this. I was thinking of an i5 7400 like you said and a GTX 1060. I put the parts list together and got my build to about $800 with those components which is doable for me.

That's good I think you will really enjoy the GTX 1060. I bought one myself and absolutely love it.
