The headset I had before, the GameCom 788 from Plantronics, just recently decided to snap when I took them off. I like the headset and my friends have told me it has a good mic, but now I'm in the market for another. I need a good headset that's under $100 (this budget is unfortunately not very flexible), with a good microphone and good-quality sound for gaming and music. Alternatively, I could buy another one of these if they are a good choice, or buy some other pair. What should I look for? Thanks

I dunno. My own experience with "gaming headphones" is that most anything under $100 and most above $100 will soon enough "snap" as you described. I would look for metal parts for the headband and the hardware that couples the earpieces to the headband. Plastic anywhere in that equation = early breakage due to stress of putting on and removing them. I bought my current headphones (non-gaming) about 3-4 years ago and still going strong under heavy use. I use them with a cheap microphone and an Astro mixamp (as old as the headphones). But they go for around $200, plus a virtual surround mixamp if you want something like that.

I would personally reccomend the Logitech g930/950 (wireless, wired respectively) very durable and comfortable headphones. I picked up my 930s on sale for $80 but I'm pretty sure the price jacked up as of late but they are well worth it.
