avx vs avx 2.0

I need to know because i need to decide between 2 i5 cpus, with price difference that MATTERS FOR ME(25%)(+lazy to invest).
Performance wise, both were sufficient(100%).So, lets talk abt avx ONLY.

My need-to-know(VERY SIMPLE):
Does the AVX 2.0 bring performance upgrade or feature support?

For example, 9800 GTX is faster than a gt 630.
However, one supports dx 11 and the other doesn't, which means there are games that wont run on 9800.
IS IT THIS KIND OF DIFFERENCE? OR;

A gtx 660 is faster than gt 630 but it can still run any game that the 660 could run.
Or this kind of difference?

IM AM NOOB, ACCEPT THAT PLS!!!!!!!!!

Im afraid because games like QUANTUM BREAK doesn't run on old cpus.
I dont want that to happen in future. Unlike performance factor, where i DONT MIND running games in low settings to compensate for performance.

Simple answer: Newer is Better!

Not knowing your system specs makes this a difficult thing to answer, and you single out AVX ONLY.

9800GTX was great eight years ago. 630GT was the low end of the line when it came out. Neither of these will work with Quantum Break!

Here are the requirements for Quantum Break:

Ultra:

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)

VRAM: 6 GB
HDD: 55 GB available space
DX: DirectX 12
 
Regarding AVX itself, I don't believe AVX2 is used by any games yet, and only a handful support AVX, so it will probably go mostly unused. That said, newer i5's are faster at the same clocks even when not running their new instruction sets.

Newer is better is a blunt statement, especially with respect to price.
Like i said, i want to know abt AVX 2.0 ONLY, NOT which cpu is faster!
I'm not using neither of these cards to play that game.
I merely build an example using those cards to give an idea of my question.Did you read it properly?
BTW, im deciding between i5 2400 and i5 3340.
And what i need to know is if avx 2.0 bring
:newer feature support(meaning if games that needd it in future,won't run without)
OR
: performance upgrade(meaning games can run on cpu without avx 2.0 but slower).
I'm sorry, but god!! ,you replies are relentless and useless!!it just gets on my nerve.srry.

Yeah, but technology changes quickly.It's hard to learn abt it.
Intel does list out cpu's support for avx but doesn't care much to explain abt it.

 
AVX is basically the next level of SSE, which was itself an expansion on MMX.

This best sums it up:

SIMD instructions allow processing of multiple pieces of data in a single step, speeding up throughput for many tasks, from video encoding and decoding to image processing to data analysis to physics simulations.

AVX instructions aren't used by very much, in part because they're not supported universally on all Intel CPUs. If you compile something to use AVX and try to run it on a CPU which doesn't support those instructions, it will crash.

We are trying to be helpful, bare in mind the way you have asked your questions comes off as a bit hostile and unusual in that you DEMAND info ONLY on AVX, then you start using old video card technology as examples to play a game that just came out recently and is quite a resource hog.

Ecky has put up good info about AVX, I would listen to that if that is your focus.

As far as your choice between the i5 2400 and 3340: Get the 3340!
AVX support in games is a red herring here. DONT WORRY ABOUT IT.
Go with the Newer CPU, as it is going to give you a bit more future proofing, though not much. I wasnt kidding when I said newer is better.
I get that you are on a budget, and I sort of want more details as to your long term goals here, though not needed. Assuming that games are your primary goal, get the newer CPU, and when you have the ability, invest in a better video card. That is where you will get the most performance boost out of gaming, even with todays budget oriented cards.
