So when I turn on/minimalize/quit I get a black screen.
I tried: verifying game files
Reinstalling game/steam
Reinstalling windows
Changing the motherboard (I didn't do this because of cs but it didn't help)

Solution
I see so could possibly be an admin issue or other. try locate "\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo.exe" and right click the file and goto properties, once in properties UNCHECK 'Run As Administrator' and also UNCHECK 'Compatibility Mode' and then press 'Apply' then click 'OK'. Proceed with loading Steam and selecting Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and press Play, Hopefully this has fixed the current update bug that has caused it to crash/freeze.

If that didn't work try going to your CS:GO folder, find csgo.exe (the application which starts the game) and DELETE this app. Then go to steam library - Right click CSGO - Go to properties - Local files - Verify integrity of Game Cache. When it's done you will get new...

This problem is CSGO exclusive, I don't have problem running any other other game. (It happened while I played Portal 2 once too, maybe it's a source only problem idk but dota and lfd runs fine.

When it's done you will get new csgo.exe file. Then right click on this new csgo application - Properties - Compatibility, and UNCHECK everything.
Go to Library - CS:GO - Properties - Set launch Options - cl_disablehtmlmotd 1
Then run the game from steam and check if it helps.

If its still a no go try updating your bios, windows, java/flash, and your .net.

Lastly try disabling your antivirus and software firewall. I can get Avast to work but not all are so giving. Thry this also.
1. Open your Steam library
2. Search for CS:GO and right click on it
3. Select properties
4. Here select "Launch options"
5. and type in "-autoconfig"
6. Launch CSGO.

This does't help. I reinstalled windows and got a motherboard replacement. The problem still persist I found somewhere that it is a monitor problem and I have to change my monitor to 60 hertz in advanced display settings->display adapter properties-> Monitor->refresh rate but if I change it to 60 hertz my resolution chanhes too for some reason and I get black bars on top and bottom.

damn I've had the same issue on 2 pc's for 3 years been wiped and clean installed and same thing
screen goes blank audio is fine the problem is ALL video goes blank on dual monitors so I can hear anything playing but if i just restart csgo (or tf2 which I just installed and seems to have the exact same issue) all the video instantly reloads on both monitor csgo and whatever was playing on the other. if I try to screen record to capture this it ends when the event happens its like it stops the recording.

I don't mean to bring up a old thread, I'm currently having the same issue but this was after installing a 1070 that I picked up, other than your issue, mine results in me having to reset my pc.. My old 1060 works just fine though. I've tried all the options listed above, but unfortunately for me nothing has worked so far when it comes to the 1070. I've made my own post but to no avail with people willing to help. Did you eventually figure out what was your issue?
