I would like to move my cable modem/router to another room but I don't know if I can use a couple to the cable that is coming into the house to extend my cable line to the modem/router. Will I lose strengh in my cable by connecting two coax cables together to reach where I want to move my router?

If you are going to use a splitter, you may see some degradgation because the data will have to travel longer, not much, but slight. If I were you, I would just buy a long ethernet cable, keep the modem where it is at and use that...unless you are talking another floor. Also, are you talking about a router/router combo?

I have a router/modem combo but only use the internet router part of the setup. I would be moving the router to another floor and would like to put it in an area that is more centrally located in the home.

So you are adding a WIFI RADIO and locating it more centrally..... fine...... between new WIFI RADIO and ISP modem = ethernet cable.
