Struggling to enable 144hz on new monitor!!

I have got a 144hz monitor for Christmas and recently I have bought an RX 470 from Sapphire and here is where it gets confusing.

The RX 470 has 3 DP outputs and 1 HDMI output. It came with a HDMI (Male) to DL-DVI-I (Female) adapter - Sorry if my terminology is wrong, I posted a link to a picture of different versions of DVI.

The 144hz Monitor (GN24HL6 from Acer) will only output 144hz when using DL-DVI-D.

If your confused what the problem is, I tried plugging the DL-DVI-D cable (came with monitor) into the adapter (I know it works because I used it before having the RX 470) and nothing would work. I am currently using HDMI from gpu to monitor and that works but only 60hz, The weird option about forcing refresh rates is blanked out so I am sure its a hardware confusion. I am currently questioning what the best way to work this out is,

Buying a HDMI (Male) to DL-DVI-D (Female) adapter and plugging into the gpu (I have bought a cheap one atm)

Plugging DL-DVI-D into the motherboard (Nothign happening atm but I think its because of the GPU settings)

Or any other ideas, I would really appreciate them!

Last thing, I am unsure which version of HDMI the Monitor uses or which version the GPU uses or even what version my current HDMI cable is (Not sure if I mentioned before but I use HDMI)

Thanks a bunch guys!

You need a dual link DVI-D or display port cable to get 144hz, you cant use HDMI unless its HDMI 2.0, HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 will only support up to 60hz. That seems to be the wrong model number for the monitor nothing comes up when I google it so i'm not sure if it supports HDMI 2.0 and I doubt you have an HDMI 2.0 cable if it does.

HDMI from 1.3 on will support 144Hz at 1080p. Any HDMI above 1.2 will carry 144Hz pretty much.

Can't find anything about that model monitor online either. Check in HWInfo or on the monitor itself. Is hard to answer without knowing that.

I dont believe it can despite what that article says. I thought hdmi 1.4 could get to 120hz max and that was only with 3D or something, i'm trying to get a more clear answer.

Its something I read all the time, but from personal experiments I have achieved 144Hz on a HDMI 1.4 cable but it isnt that well documented I agree. If HDMI 1.3 has enough bandwidth for 4k 30hz then technically it has plenty for 1080p 144Hz.

Theres a kind of reference to it here http://apcmag.com/gearing-up-for-144hz.htm/

and here http://www.eyeobserver.com/2016/12/best-cables-for-144hz-monitors-displayport.html

It seems to have something to do with cable quality http://www.howtogeek.com/267650/how-to-make-your-120hz-or-144hz-monitor-use-its-advertised-refresh-rate/

I admit its still a very gray area, and has a lot to do with interpolation and other things too technical for me to get my head around  I would love to hear some easy to understand explanation once and for all!

I think he has this one,

There are enough RX 470's with a dvi adapter so maybe that Tomas can return the one he has and get one with dvi?
