Advice on choosing an upgrade CPU for a SKT775 motherboard

I have a SKT775-based system that is starting to show a lack of power when dealing with the more resource hungry Win7, for entertainment purposes.

It is presently running on a Celeron E3400 and I would like to try and get a more beefy CPU. The motherboard is a MSI G41M-P28, which supports a large range of CPU, from Pentium 4 to the more powerful Pentium Core 2 Quad.

Because the machine is housed in a low-profile case, I would like to maintain the CPU in the 65W range (the wattage presently required, in order to - hopefully - avoid the need to upgrade the cooler as well).

Any advice on this subject would be very welcome.

If it supports 45nm CPUs, I would consider one of the lower-clocked 45nm quads (e.g. Q8xxx, Q9xxx). 45nm chips draw less power, and although all of the CPUs in a series have the same TDP, they don't all draw the same power and produce the same heat. A Q8200 may well be a 65w chip.

If you can find a Q6600 that might be a decent choice. Even though it is getting rather long in the tooth for modern games it still handles most everything else.I have one in my old backup machine.

@ Ecky
The model you specifically mention (Q8200) runs at 95W. Although the motherboard supports several Q8/Q9xxx, on the compatibility list, for that series, unless its a Q8/Q9xxxS model, all listed models run with that power.

No offense man but... is that a cat or a gremlin on your pic?

My concern with the wattage is because of the case. Its a low profile housing and clearance for higher density coolers is minimal.
