Odd USB Behavior, Possibly Mobo Related but unsure.

Hey All!

So I've been having a problem that recently sprouted up within the past week and a half.

My keyboard has the tenancy to suddenly go out. It will do so for 1-4 seconds and then comeback online. The thing is the Mouse does not suffer this effect, another device that sometimes gets influenced by this is my Scarlet Focusrite 2i4

The 2i4 for quite some time has had some strange issue where it will suddenly just bug out and shut down. Not sure why it does this, and Focusrite isn't sure either, so shy of sending my unit in (which I dont really wanna do because its so random and strange there is no obvious pattern). However, it will completely glitch out if I plug to many items into the system.

This over time has lead to my conclusion that maybe my motherboard's power delivery on the USB isnt holding up anymore (the board is an LGA1150 Z170 that was bought a couple years ago. Roughly 2013-2014). It was originally running on a CX750 and later upgraded to a G2 1000 Supernova by EVGA.

I have yet to clean the ports but they should be pretty clean still, I do keep good upkeep on this machine, so its leading me to believe 1 of 3 things:

-The motherboard may have potentially limited or reduced USB power capacity.

-My keyboard is starting to fritz out for some particular reason.

-My focusrite is overdrawing power now for some reason and causing more issues.

I figured I'd get a second opinion or someone who's a bit more versed in this sort of a subject, while I know a lot about hardware, there basically is no indication to me that would make such symptoms.

The Keyboard goes out without warning at infrequent randomness, the Focusrite is an unknown variable, and the Motherboard is a 320 mobo, so I'd hope that its not a problem and it isn't showing issues elsewhere.

So, Im at a loss. Anyone care to chime in?

if the cables of those devices, usb devices are not damaged, bent, i would check the ports and hen do a good clean of the motherboard

also with hwmonitor or openhardwaremonitor you can check any 5 volts value, well, voltages in general

about the psu, 1000 watts?

that is, well, if you don't have 3 gtx980ti, well, it is 90% wasted psu

from time to time, if i see a similar behavior, i tend to wipe drivers loaded on usb devices

do you have a wireless keyboard and mouse? any of those are connected in the front of the case? any usb3 port?

The cables are solid as far as I know, however, I didnt know HWMonitor watched the voltages. Ill look into them. I can consider a wipe on them.

All my periphrials are wired (I use Razer Keyboard/Mouse not that they're the best imo)

Yes, my 1000W PSU is extreme overkill, I however wanted something that I could always keep for when I upgrade/change my rig. Effectively eliminating any possible cap. (My system probably consumes 300W at load at best)

No items are plugged into the front USB.

Hello LiquidCesium,

My System:
Asus X99 Pro - usb 3.1
Intel 5820
GTX 970
PSU: Thermaltake 850w, Gigabyte 800w

I am having the same issues you are having from the day I built my pc, the problems randomly to any usb device (ex: keyboard, Wacom tablet, connected usb device....).
I have tried everything anyone can imagine, Hardware wise: updated Bios, drivers, connect-disconnect devices, switched PSU, switched my wireless keyboard with wired one, overclocked, removed overclocking, tested RAM, switched HDD, got an SSD....... no luck
Software wise: Win 7, Win 10 all builds, all different combinations of AV & Firewalls, ran clean bare-bone OS .......no luck
From what I've read on the internet there is an issue with asus x99 MB usb implementation, I don't know why or how since there is no clear answer on this subject.
What triggers this issue is unknown either -at least for me-
If I had the ability to return the MB I would do so long time ago but unfortunately I can't.

Did you come up with any solution?
Anyone can help with this?

Kind Regards
