Hello everybody, Ive been a long time lurker on the forum and Ive finally decided to pull the trigger and build my own pc. Despite being such a creep on the forums I have little pc experience as it is my first time owning a computer in a LONG time thus I need a complete over-hall. I have tried to do some research before posting on here but there is a lot I do not understand quite yet. This is where you guys come in.

Goal: Gaming PC, everyday work pc, and streaming.

Budget: 2,000 including monitor, and accessories.

Time: I plan to build it as a gift for myself for passing my didactic course work in a few months (obtaining my PharmD).

Theme: Yes I am a bit vain and have a theme in mind. Im a huge Mass Effect fan and hope to make a build base off the up in coming game based on this (https://assets.vg247.com/current//2016/11/mass_effect_andromeda.jpg), aiming for an armor, metallic, black and star burnt red that you see in the pic.

Parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/brandicimo/saved/

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
    Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
    Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card
Case: NZXT S340 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case OR Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ATX Mid Tower Case (Silver)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan (x2)
    Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K65 Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
Other: eTopxizu Computer RGB LED Light Strip with Remote control
Other: Corsair Dominator Platinum LigtBar Kit
    Total: $1948.30
Take away point: I am being a bit vain on some of the chosen parts (i mean some are just sexy, common), and I need your guys opinions to see if I am being just ridiculous on some of my part selections. Or if there is anything you recommended that would be better and matches my color scheme or overall use of the pc would be great. Thank You!

Note: I am looking for deals, why I am planning ahead of time.

Haha yeah well its gotta look good right? I have seen LN2 cooled Kaby Lakes running at 7GHz and they are selling 5.3GHz binned chips online.. I'd say Kaby Lake is worth it for the price difference everything considered but it isnt a deal breaker.

The PSU is important. Sure it isnt a nice looking part of the build but its the heart of your system. Is important to get one with good quality components and a clean power delivery.

Dom Plats are just Vengeance with unnecessary fancy heatsinks and LED's. I really would get something cheaper and spend it somewhere else.

Nice entry level 1440p monitor with 75Hz refresh rate http://pcpartpicker.com/product/7TrcCJ/asus-pb277q-270-75hz-monitor-pb277q Not the best but for its price its pretty good
Why not get a Kaby Lake build for roughly the same price? and Dominator Platinum are a bit off a rip off. There are cheaper LED RAM around, or even some nice alien looking G-Skillz coming out (that will be pricey......) http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gskill-trident-z-rgb-memory,news-54430.html

You could also go for an LED board like the ASUS Aura range.. https://www.asus.com/microsite/best-200-series-motherboards/ Am just talking aesthetics here but they're important to me too so I know where youre coming from lol. Check the z270 MSI's out https://www.msi.com/news/detail/4co9gfbh4j4WuXnBagcPqwdg-f8247QGAIkf6_sGUMdeboHdhEjuql_JoTbJfWHXbNfGgnXfhAEvfhSkLrblFQ~~

And yes, get a better PSU, as the EVGA NEX isnt the best tbh.

From what I saw from different benchmarking tests that kaby lake didn't have that much of a difference when it comes to performance. I guess for 20$ difference that isn't much of a downside for getting kaby lake tho, unless I found a better place to put the 20$ to. Also my knowledge is supper limited.

You saw my vain-ness haha. I chose the Dominator Plats just cause of how they looked, I knew they were a bit of a rip off. I think I might just default to the G.Skill Ripjaws V in silver and leave it at that.

Don't the ASUS Aura come out soon? Or am I way off.

Change PSU, thanks!! :)

Change PSU and Im looking at 1080s right now. Do you have any suggestions on a 1440p display that doesn't break the bank? I didn't chose one since I only found them to be in the $350+ range pushing me over budget. Thank you.
