Old I7 or new I5?

Found a build with an i7 3770 for $250, I was actually going to try a cheap under $500 build when I saw that.

Would a build with an old i7 3770 be better than with a new kaby lake i3 maybe i5, only considering CPUs.

Uh...The i5 kaby lake has better single core performance and better IGPU...

For pure gaming, go for a kaby lake i5 without a doubt. Only get the 3770 if your doing extremely extremely highly intensive multi threaded workloads.

In general i agree, however there is a lot of advantage to the i7 3770.. the on board graphics are handy and has very good single core performance. Also the extra threads means it should be better for multitasking than most i5s
