I bought a computer with : Intel Core i3 540 (CPU)
DH55HC (MotherBoard)

Is it possible for me to be able to upgrade to :
FX-6300 (CPU)
MSI 970A-G43 ATX AM3+ (Motherboard)

Without a fresh version of windows and if so how would I go about doing it.

I think you will be just fine without windows reinstallation.
Few days ago i switched from FX 6300 to i7 4770 and z97, at 1st boot windows just installed new drivers for z97 chipset and all was fine.
All i did later was browse through Device Manager and uninstalled old drivers from AMD.
Windows 10 is very friendly when it comes to full system part changes.
You will most likely need to buy new windows 10 key.

What if i went with another Intel chip set motherboard. And got a i3-6100 .
That should work though right.
