Extremely low write speeds on Seagate 2TB SSHD

I've had a Seagate ST2000DX001 SSHD for around a year now, and in the last 6 months or so it has become extremely slow and inconsistent when writing large quantities of data to it. The first ~2GB of data will write at a reasonable rate (50-60 MB/s), and after that the rates will drop sharply to almost nothing (1-2 MB/s, sometimes less). This happens regardless of the size of the files I'm transferring. I am currently trying to transfer a couple of hundred RAW image files (20-25 MB each), and everything writes at 1-2MB/s. Read speeds are still great, as good as I would expect from this kind of drive. I currently have 401 GB for free space on the drive. Anyone have any good ideas?

Hey there, @Taylor85345!

This sounds unfortunate, I'd recommend you back up all the data from the SSHD somewhere else immediately. Having duplicates of the files is what will save you from the potential data loss. Once you have the data duplicated, check the connections to the drive and try plugging it to another SATA port on your computer and also via a different SATA cable. If that doesn't help, you should definitely check what is the health and SMART status by running the drive's brand-specific diagnostic utility. If you have the drive's utility installed already, make sure you also have the latest firmware for that model installed as well.

Either way, if any errors occur during the diagnostic testing, you should definitely...

Either way, if any errors occur during the diagnostic testing, you should definitely consider replacing the SSHD. It might also be a good idea to check its warranty status and see if you will be able to RMA it.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions!
