my Belkin router isn't connecting to the internet

hello my Belkin rang extender is saying it is unable to connect to my router because it cant find an ip address how do i fix this problem

Press your Windows key and R together then in the Run box that shows up, type
cmd /k ipconfig /all
then press Enter.

A black Command form will appear and the details of your network settings. Look for Default Gateway and if it starts with the numbers 169 and ends in 254, post back for the procedure to correct that.
