Can't get USB to work in Windows 7 with Gigabyte Z270 Ultra Gaming

Dear all,

I have a Gigabyte Z270 Ultra Gaming motherboard, socket 1151. My CPU is i7 6700K with 4x Fury HyperX - HX426C15FBK2/16 memory modules (two sets of 2x8GB – 2666Mhz kit).

My hard drives are a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB m2 SSD and one Intel SSD 240GB. I could not get an USB stick installation to work. It kept asking for drivers. So I used the Gigabyte tool to inject drivers into my USB stick with Windows 7 on it. This tool placed three parts on the stick.
1. USB drivers, 2. NVMe drivers (for the m2 SSD I believe), 3. Packages (don't know what this is for). I’ve managed to install Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Ed. on the Intel SSD with much hassle (didn’t work on the m2). So I’ve decided to clone the regular SSD to the m2 with Samsung Data Migration tool. However, I can’t get my USB ports to work.

With a fresh Windows 7 installation, I am missing a lot of drivers. This makes my mouse not work properly. I can only right- and leftclick. The mousewheel doesn’t work etc. Also, my external DVD drive and USB stick are not recognized and can’t be used. When I install the USB drivers, none of my USB ports work. I’ve tried all of them, 3.0 and 2.0. I believe XHCI is the cause of this, but I’m not sure. The mouse and keyboard do work in the UEFI BIOS, but not in Windows 7. So I can’t log in or work with it. I’ve formatted the disk and installed everything again; no avail. I don’t know what to do at this point. I want to keep using Windows 7 and not Windows 10. Gigabyte states that the motherboard can be used with windows 7, so it should work. I rely on the internet’s collective knowledge to help me solve this problem :) If you need more info, please let me know. Hope to hear from you all.

Kind regards,

Jae

Using multiple RAM kits is not recommended. That can cause memory to be unable to operate at rated specifications. A workaround is to lower the memory clock speed. Such combinations have never been tested together and carry no guarantee that they will work together.

Thank you for your reply, but that is not the pressing issue at hand. Maybe I should remove that part.
