Hi, the situation is as follows: laptop with windows 7 64bits.

I wanted to install spybot to look for malware because I noticed my laptop acting weird. Installation of the software didn't went through well, the system froze several times (the system had been acting sluggish from the beginning, hence I was looking for malwares) and at some point I tried cancelling the installation, apparently with no success (even tried through Taskmanager kilimg the process). In the end the programme appeared as installed, but before using it I wanted to restart the system because it was too slow and not responding well.

After shutting down the system, I turned it on again, windows booted up but stopped with a blue screen saying there was a problem booting and that it could depend on a recently failed software installation. I rebooted with f8 but neither the recovery system nor safe mode seems to work: restarting in safe mode results in the same blue screen, recovery won't just boot, I stays ages on the same starting screen were only the mode pointer on a blue desktop is visible (left it there approximately 1 hour and nothing happened).

My guess is that something went wrong with the spybot installation, I would like to uninstall it but not being able to get in to windows prevents me from doing anything.

Any suggestions?

Yeah you can recover your files with a Linux distro for sure, but obviously that doesnt solve the problem with Windows. You could aslo try contacting Acer but am not sure you'll have much luck. Because of the age of the laptop you could be looking at failing components, as the recovery partitions should repair anything OS related.

See if you get anywhere with those options.
You could try downloading the Windows ISO creation tool onto a USB and attempting an OS repair with it. It's hard to say exactly what the issue is, but that's what I'd try first.

For a Windows 7 download you need a valid product key though.

I was looking into it, actually I was wondering if I will be able to download the ISO with only the code on then back of my laptop, not having a real copy of Windows

I tried but, as mentioned on another website, windows won't let me download the ISO because the version of Windows was installed by a third party (I.e. Acer) and I should contact them. Needless to say that I tried starting the acer recovery procedure, the one using the hidden partition on my hdd, but of course also that didn't work, I left it on a black screen saying "please wait a few moment" for about half an hour, then restarted the laptop again.

The laptop is almost 8 years old, so unfortunately out of warranty, but maybe I could try nonetheless to contact acer and ask them for an ISO. I was reading somewhere else that I could try booting up with a Linux USB drive, that should allow me to recover all my files but it wouldn't solve the main problem. I can try the acer recovering tool again later and see if leaving it for a couple of hours changes something. Anyway thank you for replying so quickly.
