Hi, I have an Old Dell Optiplex 9020 With a intel i5-4570, 8gb DDR3, and a 290Watt PSU. The card I want EVGA GTX 1050 ti 4GB, on newegg says it requires a 300W PSU, will I be able to get away with a 290W or no? http://

You can usually upgrade a Dell with a low power GPU like that without problems. Luckily it does not require external power so you're fine there. However sometimes people do have issues with the BIOS because many Dells do not have UEFI until later on. So I would say its worth trying, but if Dell offers a BIOS update you may want to do that first to be sure.

84W CPU, 90-100W for the balance + a 75W GPU = 259W.

It would be really close, if new. Given the setup has to be at least 3 years old, that's 3 years of the PSU degrading.

The only way to know 100% would be to try it. Dell's Optiplex PSUs are usually decent-enough that it should work, or it won't. Not likely to damage anything else in the process.

The one he selected draws motherboard power, it has no power connector.

So you are saying that I will be fine not upgrading my PSU?

With Dell nothing is ever definite, but I would say probably. Their PSUs are generally decent quality units made by Delta and other good OEMs.
