Hi All.
I have recently been having a few PC problems. Self built rig with the following specs

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz (5.00GHz Turbo) (Socket AM3+) Processor - OEM
Motherboard 990XA UD3 ( updated with most recent drivers and BIOS )
Be Quiet Dark rock 2 CPU fan
32g DDR 3 matched pairs RAM (Corsair)
3 Corsair case fans.
NVidia GeForce GTX 970
Two HD,
HD 1 has the OS on and is a Kingston SATA SSD 120 gig with all apps installed (new)
Games and Steam are installed on 2nd drive, is WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD ( nothing on this drive other than games and is new)
Generic DVD/CD player
Coolermaster 650W Modular PSU
Mad Katx V5 Keyboard
Chroma Deathadder mouse
OS was Win 10 64 but reinstalled Win 7 Pro 64
It started a few months ago ( got your pop corn lol)
PC would sit all day without no problems, instance I started game, after 5 mins, 30 mins an hour, I would either crash to desktop, PC would lock up forcing a hard boot or get a BSOD (different error message every time) Some days it would go crazy crashing every time I tried to play games, sometimes even just looking on Youtube or using social media then eventually settle down, other times it would crash the once then I would get 4-5 hours of gaming no problem. Also, noticed sometimes( not that often)in game, I would lose all my settings, and controls would be reset to default. And using social media, when I tried to tab to the next box, the cursor wouldnt move but stay in the box I last used and would force me to restart Firefox
I Uninstalled everything, formatted drive with OS on, reinstalled all software and it continued.
Replaced the hard drive that had the OS on with a new SSD ( the above) Thought it could be a driver conflict or a driver that wasnt right for Win 10, so installed Win 7 and at the same time, replaced the games drive with the above.
We tried to run a test on the drive I store my games on but it got to 60% then crashed so assumed that was a problem, so renewed the games drive
Since reverting back to Win 7 Pro 64bit,The BSOD have stopped as has the crashes to desktop, however, while playing games, the action freezes for a few seconds before continuing,.Zero problems using the PC for normal internet stuff
My thoughts are that the Mobo is starting to act up, so sent off for a Gigabyte 990X-Gaming SLI AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3
Assembled and nothing ! The fans spun on both CPU and GPU but no power to USB ports. Took it apart, cleaned it off and reassembled and again same as before. Contacted Customer Support at Overclockers and was informed that the board wasn't receiving enough power and I was told to return the Mobo for a full refund :(
So after a bit more research, sent off for the following board
Gigabyte 990XA UD5 R5 after asking if the board supported my CPU, after being told it did, I purchased said board ( also thinking its almost the same board as the one I have so should at least work but drop the CPU to 4 GHZ ( which is what its running at at the min) Nope, again assembled it only as it started to post the BIOS page that the motherboard does not support the CPU, it would allow me to under clock it neither so have had to rebuild using my old Mobo, which as I type, is currently ticking over quite well.
I am borrowing a GPU to see if the problems I am now having are graphics card related rather than buying one only to find I still have problems
I Have run Furmark and let it run for 30 mins and the max the temp got to was 82 degrees and no BSOD of hiccups

Running out of options now. If the GPU is a bust then its going to either the CPU or Mobo and as the Mobo is the oldest, am assuming thats the cause of my woes
So recap
Up until around November 2016, all was running fine no hiccups.
I have renewed
Both Hard drives
Changed the CMOS battery
Deleted Win 10 for Win 7 Pro 64
I think up to now its been a combination of a few problems occurring over a short period of time. Win 10, hard drives being just about done in, driver conflicts. ( ones left to explore, Mobo and GPU )

All drivers as far as I am aware up to date as far as the makers have issued
I have seen the post suggesting a relevant motherboard, but will I have to upgrade the PSU ?
A decent Motherboard would be a good start without having to buy, one try it, only for something to delay the problem solving.
Tearing my hair out now

Help if you could please ( apologies for the long post)
Regards

The main problem I see, other than the fact that you are using a 220w cpu, is that your cpu cooler is not nearly good enough. Yes you would want to buy a new better more powerful psu once you had a better cooler. Luckily for you, your cooler is only letting your cpu draw around ~125w and not the full 220w.

Of course the best answer is to get rid of the FX9590 and all of your problems will disappear.

Your problems stem from using 990X based motherboard. I'm surprised your original setup lasted as long as it did you likely wore down the VRMs significantly. 990FX is the chipset you want, there is a significant difference.

The model you want would be the 990FXA-UD3, its significantly different than your original board. Gigabyte has since released other 990FX boards that are better, or the ones suggested above. If you wanted to stick to Gigabyte the 990FX Gaming is a good choice.

However your other option (and the best one instead of continuing to throw money at this) is to sell it all and buy something new. Even on the right board its not a good CPU.

I bought the after market CPU cooler as a recommendation. And it being a Be Quiet Dark Rock 2 its HUGE as well as being super quiet.( 5 inch fan with 5 inch square of cooling fins, and a small amount of Thermal Ice between them) Think in the back of my mind it would be easier to change the CPU as well as the Mobo. I have looked at the Gigabyte 990FX range and will probably give that a go first

Again , many thanks for the input any suggestions are appreciated and welcome
