So i don't have a pc part picker link anymore for my build but ill type it out here for you guys. Im just wondering honestly what to do if anything right now because of one reason and that is DDR4. So here is the build:

Mother Board: Asrock z97 extreme 6
Ram: Crucail Ballistix Elite 2X8GB
Storage: 4TB Western Digital Cavern Black, 128 Samsung SSD for OS
CPU: Intel i7 4790K Not overclocked.
CPU Cooler: 280L Cooler Master Nepton Water Cooler
PSU: 1500 Watt Plat certified Evga PSU
GPU: GTX Geforce 980 4GB

So the questions are what do I need to upgrade and what can wait and why can it wait? Like i wanted to get up to 32GB of ram but i feel like buying DDR4 is not worth it now? So DO i buy a new mother board and ram or what do you guys recommend? Thanks for the help!!

Solution
Im still running an i7 3820 and have seen no reason to upgrade(my system is mainly used for gaming nowadays). as a gamer you'd see more improvement with a faster gpu(gtx 1070 or 1080) than you would with a new cpu or more ram.

Is what you are doing with the system now maxing your ram and forcing you to use the pagefile? If not then 32Gb of ram won't do anything for you.
To be honest the speed from DDR3 to DDR4 will be a maginal improvement
Your I7 is quite powerful still and compares to the 6th gen CPU easily enough and they would only provide ~ 15 increase in power/speed

but if you WANT to upgrade, then your looking at a Mobo,Ram, and CPU. something like this would fit your non overclocking and would give you more power, the ram being CAS 12 makes it a nice speed at max 2400 the board can handle

Understood, but like wont be worth it for how long? Should i get 32 gigs of DDR3? Should i overclock my 4790K? Can you explain why a new GPU as well mine was pretty top of the line when I got it?

You haven't answered the question on *why* you want to upgrade. Are you seeing performance issues somewhere? Are you finding out that 16GB RAM is not enough for your needs like coding? Is the GTX 980 not cutting it for you in the newer games that are heavy GPU dependent?

Otherwise if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, why waste it? Your system should be good another two years with only a possible GPU upgrade.

No nothing is being maxed but new games on the horizon are recommending 16GB ram minimum. If you dont think ill see an improvement I can wait another 2 or 3 years to upgrade but should i OC my CPU?

Honestly have been able to play every game that i want without a problem, im starting to see new games recommending 16GB minimum but not sure what that means. Everything runs fine for me I just wanna keep up with the time. But if you guys think i can wait another 2 years i will and that why i came here for an opinion. Should i OC my processor or no?
