Hi there guys and gals my current pc specs are as follows
Core i5-760 cpu
Windforce 4gb gtx 770
Intel motherboard
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
500w 80 plus psu
Cooler master case
Im looking to get a new GPU for my birthday next month and have found an rx 480 8gb for £220 and a gtx 980 for £240 and i am unsure of which would be the best upgrade for my system. I play things like gta 5, doom (2016) and a few other intense titles and i usually play on the high preset.

I forgot to mention but i am going to upgrade the cpu as well this year so dont worry about any potential bottlenecks.

GTX 980 should destroy the RX 480 in GTA5.

Check benchmarks for the cards in the specific games you want to play.

The RX480 is newer and draws less power, but I would go for the GTX 980 as it was a premium product while the RX480 is not. The GTX 980 has more horsepower and should do better with higher resolutions.

You will definitely experience CPU bottlenecks especially at higher FPS while gaming on 1080p. It should be manageable if you do not play above 60hz. Make sure to enable VSYNC while gaming if this is the case.

Yeah im currently playing 1080p 60hz but im thinking that if i went for a higher resolution or wanted higher framerates that the 980 would potentially be the one to get, plus i dont know if the power draw problem has been fixed for the rx 480 and i have an old motherboard i would rather not fry lol.
