Download Speed Issues

Hello friends,

I am having an ongoing issue when it comes to download speeds. I currently have AT&T high-speed with 24mb per sec. The problem is, when I do download anything, I can barely break 3mb. And this is with a hardwire connection.

I called ATT&T out 3 times in the past 5 months and all they could do was run new wiring and upgraded my modem, but still after using 3 different Speedtest programs, which all registered over 25mbps.

I thought it might be a motherboard/Ethernet issue, but they told me no. I am not sure what is causing this issue.

Any advice?

Jeff

For megabytes vs megabits, there is no 'problem'.
That is the way it is supposed to be. Just different things reporting the same 'speed' differently.

3 x 8 = 24. Right where it should be.

Like this:
"I was told this car had a top speed of 200! I can only get it to 125!!"
'Yes...200 kph. You are reading it in mph"

Same thing.

What is telling you "3mb" ?

I'm thinking you are seeing the difference between megabits and megabytes.

Your ISP and speedtest.net report megabits
Steam, for instance, reports in megabytes.
Approx 8:1

So 24megabits per sec from your ISP = 3megabytes per sec from Steam.

Hello,

I just spoke with AT@T regarding this issue; they assured me I am paying for 24megabytes per sec. But I am more to agree with your statement of megabits, not bytes. So I am not sure what to do in this case.
