Hello Everyone,

I've been looking at building a custom case, can't really find one online i like thats not too expensive.

what I am looking to do it build a case/desk.

i've seen some online i like but they seem to go crazy on the builds, i want something nice but not something thats going to cost me a fortune as this will be probably a build in progress thing and not something that gets done all at once.

if it helps I should be having access to a 3d printer soon as well.

I am not sure if the desk is going to incorporate a tv stand for the monitor/tv (43inch 4k) or if i'll just end up with a tv stand behind the desk, its currently set up as one of my monitors from the pc.

the desk will end up having shelves down the side to house other electronics that will be connected to the soundbar and tv such as bluray player, laserdisc player, ced video disc player.

some of the builds i've seen seem really good but some good ones seem like they are missing stuff.

for example:

i've seen a few where the motherboards are just screwed into the plywood/mfd board. I've seen others where they install standoff screws into the wood. I'm thinking i like that and I can find the standoff screws but I can't find any of the threaded portions to put into the wood they would screw into.

also some have stained their case and while it gives the case a nice clean look I am not sure staining the inside would be good with the electrical components (the case will have a glass/plexiglass top.

as for grounding i've read that the components don't need to be connected to metal for the motherboard, hard drives, etc. that the system is grounded via the power supply. everything thats connected to the motherboard gets grounded that way.

other than the normal case components (no plans for liq cooling) i do plan on adding some led lighting around the lip of the case under the glass.

i'd love to hear peoples thoughts on this especially if they've build a computer desk themselves.

Thanks

Ryan
