I got a new 1TB Hard Drive as an upgrade to my 500GB Hard Drive, so what I did was I cloned my entire 500GB Hard Drive onto my new HDD. Everything is running smoothly with the OS even working without an issue, the only issue is that my new HDD is only allocated for half of its storage. I understand how to add unallocated to the allocated portion on normal drives and such, but the disk management wont let me do it in this situation for some reason, does anyone know how to fix this, or is this just impossible to do this in this situation?

Hi there CptSalty11,

What happens when you try to allocate that space? Do you get some sort of an error message?

Well, I believe you can see if some third party partition management tool would do the job: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/277170-32-best-partitioning-software

Keep in mind that it is always a good idea to back up the data stored on the drive before dealing with partitions.

Cheers,

Solution
Have you specifically used Disk Management to select the option "Extend Volume" that normally appears on the sub:menu when you right-click the C: partition? If so, are you indicating that option is grayed out? Or if it's not, some error msg. appears when you select it?

When I extend the unallocated partition, it becomes a completely new allocated partition, it doesn't merge with the larger, in use one. And the options on the used partition are grayed out. I'm not worried about backing up data in this situation, mainly because I have the old HDD still on stand-by just in case. I'll try to use the programs linked on the forum you suggested when I can, hopefully they can merge the partitions.
