Hi folks. As the title suggests i have an HP Proliant DL360 G5 1U blade server which im wanting to use as a video editing compuer. It works great but is very loud. It does get quieter after appx 1minute of being powered up but is still too loud for my liking.

Is there any way to make it quieter?? I was thinking open the top cover and installing new heatsink and fans to the cpus as it is not going in a rack size does not matter at all.

Spec:
2x 700w psu
2x xeon e5450 quad core 3ghz
24gb ram
2gb nvidia gpu powered by anotuer power supply.

As i say looks and size i couldnt care less i just want it to be quieter. I know its never going to be as quiet as my media pc just want it quiet enough so is usable for long periods without getting head ache.

Thanks folks.

John.

Solution
Those server rack fans are designed to push large amounts of air and they are quite small, so they spin quickly and are thus very loud.
If you leave the top cover off and replace the default CPU fans, then yes, perhaps you will be able to quiet it down somewhat. Disconnect any case fans as well, if any.
