So the motherboard died from a 2015 purchase - Can I replace the motherboard with something from newegg? If so - any recommendations so that i can reuse most if not all of the dell components ( wifi/BT, HDD, memory etc)

Solution
FYI

I purchased a MSI Z170a SLI Plus mobo for about $100. and got a new case($30) to go along with the new form factor and was able to reuse everything else. I was able to successfully transplant the processor, heat sink, cpu fan, system fan into the new system. The hard drive I did had doubts about but when i plugged it in and booted everything came right up. I just have to remove the Dell software off the hard drive but there was no data loss whatsoever.

Thanks all for the assist.
Maybe, maybe not. Often OEMs use proprietary parts - cases that have non-ATX mounting holes, power supplies with proprietary connectors, and sometimes even hard drives and disk drives that require a special cable. You'd have to open it up and check.

Your safest bet may be to order a replacement from Dell, if you're unsure.

That's one of my biggest fears - I figure that would be the case with the older Dell offerings but wasn't sure of the newer models. One would think standard modular components would be a cost savings for most corporations. Internally - everything within the XPS 8900 looks standard. However I am unsure of the mobo / PSU conformance to standards.

I work on computers for a living, and I opened up a brand new HP desktop a few days ago that did not have a single standard component. Even the hard drive had a proprietary connector. Again, you'd have to visually inspect it to be sure. ATX power supplies use a 24 pin connector, like this:
