Hi

Hope someone can shed some light on this. I'm in the process of building a new(er) computer using second hand parts.

The motherboard is an MSI H61M -E23 (B3). I'm trying to install windows vista ultimate 64 bit on a formated hard drive that was previously on my old installation and every time it gives me an error of 0x80070002 or 0x80070003 and fails the install.

I've looked in the bios for any problems or potential updates and one thing really jumps out at me. The splash screen is for a brand called Viglen which as far as I can tell has nothing to do with MSI. Could this bios be causing the problems and is there a way to fix it?

The rest of the system specs are:

Core i3 - 2120
1x4gb ddr3 ram
Maxtor 160gb hdd

This operating system worked perfectly on my previous build of a core 2 quad q6600 and 6gb ddr2 ram. I'm using the same hard drive that has been formated.

Thanks for any advice.

"fails the install"----Is it for the vista installation, or for the windows update?

It is for vista installation. The hdd was installed in my previous system with the same operating system. I have since formated ready to install a fresh copy on my new system.

It is the full retail version of vista. Turns out it seems to be the hard drive that was the problem. Installed a new hard drive and windows installed within minutes.
