YouTube microphone needed

Hi

I'm looking for a USB headset or standalone mic that I can use to record my voice while playing a game that I'm recording.

I have the system to record 1080p 60fps on demanding games now and my videos are uploading successful in the right format and frame speed so now I just need to start adding my voice in my next videos.

Price can go as high as £150 'if needed' for the mic/headset. I don't want it to pick up key button presses thou.

Regards

how much you spend really depends on how good you want the quality.

some users might be able to get away with a modmic or normal mic on headsets like the game one, etc while some may want to go with a better quality setup like an at2020 on boom arm.

cardioid (directional) mics help cut out noise from behind. stands and having the mic closest to you helps as well.

Well I have a steel series pair of headphones currently. I'm looking for a USB mic that has smooth voice pickup and is unobstructive to use.

another thing to note is if you want to live monitor your voice while you record

many professional youtubers use xlr microphones with audio interfaces. this allows for mixing various input and output signals, live monitoring without delay, etc.

if you use a usb mic and want to live monitor you need to either A) use the jack [if any] on the mic for it or B) use listen to this device on pc. using listen to this device sometimes results in slight delay [due to signal conversion times].

for on the cheap the atr2500 is like the at2020 but cheaper built with not quite the quality. the 2020usb or 2020usbplus (live monitor option) are well known good mics which are small enough to not impede vision with good overall quality. i really like how the rode nt-usb sounds as well from recordings i've heard. the yeti is popular as well but its A) huge, B) accessories are expensive and C) will impede vision more if used on a boom while you play games, etc.

if you get a desk mic do use a A) boom to locate the mic near your mouth away from the desk sounds B) pop filter to prevent plosives and optionally C) a shock mount if you have your case on the desk, bang on the desk or otherwise have vibration problems. floor mount stands instead of clamp on/bolt on style stands will also isolate you from desk vibration.
