My 2ghz connection disappears after some time.

I have a Linksys EA6700, it has been good to me for a good while. Recently I have started using the wifi more my cells, and other handheld devices. It isn't a recent thing but the 2ghz connection seems to disappear after maybe a day or so and all that remains active is the 5ghz connection. I know 5ghz might be better but my wireless headset run on around the same frequency and can cause crackling and all sorts of other nonsense when it is being used. So in order to get the 2ghz connection back I end up resetting the router and everything is ok again until some time passes. Anyone have any idea about what is going on and why I keep losing the 2ghz signal? My wired connections seem to work fine around the clock.

My first guess would be, because it's wireless and most consumer wireless routers are cheap junk (doesn't mean they are cheap to buy) that fail under heavy usage conditions. Heck, some fail under light usage conditions. Resetting the router is probably the correct solution, short term. Long term, it will probably require a firmware update, if the problem with that model can even be resolved, and barring that, a more reliable wireless router seems the next step.

You might see if you can identify what channels are most congested in your area. Switching the router to a channel that has less traffic may increase reliability.

As a last resort, a 3rd party firmware such as AdvancedTomato or DD-WRT may work better than Linksys provided firmware, but the onus of a bricked router is on the user of such 3rd party firmware.

Further investigation into your model of router comes up with other users with the same issue of dropped wireless connections, so it may not be a problem that you will see resolved in that router.

I would first see if there are any firmware patches for your router. The failure you describe sounds like the 2.4g radio chip in the router is failing. This is not a common thing to have happen but chips do fail in equipment. I have seen a lot more complaint about linksys quality since cisco sold the line to belkin....but it may just be people complaining.
