Hi there :)

Just because you have a 144Hz monitor doesn't mean you "need" 144 fps in all of your games, all the time. The refresh rate of the monitor isn't the same as the in-game frames per second. That being said, if your monitor can go 144Hz, then yes, it's worth taking advantage of that by trying to reach 144fps. However, your frame rate depends on what game you're play, the settings in-game, and the rest of your hardware. (CPU, RAM....) Can you give us the rest of your PC specs?

What games do you play most often? If you answer CS:GO, then yes, a GTX1060 should be able to hit 144fps. If you answer Arma 3, you'll probably never hit 144fps regardless of the graphics card. :p

Amen to that!! Arma 3 is the destroyer of all PC's. It will cripple all but the top top end systems even at 1080p

How about a more DX12 friendly R9 Fury for 330-360 euros?

If you play mostly DX11 games, better pick a used 980Ti; if you play mostly DX12 games, better pick a used R9 Fury.
New 1060 or new RX 480 aren't powerful enough for every game at 1080p and 144hz, unless you lower settings.
Or thinking about SLI/CrossFire configuration, but your PSU isn't good enough.

If you can find a really good deal on a Fury X in the same price range as a 1060, basically under $300 USD or 280 euros, that would be a great bang for your buck. There were some great deals during Christmas where you could pick up a Fury X for like $275 USD but I doubt you'll find any for that price right now. Anything over that price, though, is all Nvidia. If you are dropping 360 euros (~$385 USD), I'd take the GTX 1070 over the Fury X all day long. Not sure what prices are like over in your area but here, there is a Gigabyte 1070 mini ITX on newegg.com right now for $360 USD. The 1070 just stomps the Fury X for the same money in BF1 http://www.tweaktown.com/tweakipedia/116/fury-vs-gtx-1070-battlefield-dx11-dx12/index.html. In 1080p Ultra (DX11), the 1070 is getting 137 FPS avg. and never drops under 101 FPS. In 1080p, medium it is getting 163 FPS avg and never drops under 115 FPS. The Fury X is only getting 137 FPS avg in medium which is less than what the 1070 does in ultra and it is getting the same min. FPS in medium as the 1070 does in ultra which shows just how much better a 1070 is. In DX12, 1080p Ultra, the Fury X catches up in average frame rates (126 vs 123) but take a look at minimum frame rates (92 vs 49). It is a little deceiving. That kind huge drop off to 49 will cause tearing unless you have a Freesync display or keep max FPS at 60. In medium 1080p (DX12), the Fury X edges out the 1070. But this is just this game and these particular settings. Overall, I'll still take the 1070. Basically, don't waste your money on a Fury X unless it is in the same price range as a 1060.
