Cheap upgrades for this old system?

Hello everyone.

I'm thinking of upgrading this budget build i did back in 2013.
Specs:
Intel Core i3-2120
8GB DDR3 1333MHz
GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB

I have about 250$ to spend on this. I'm thinking of swapping that i3 with a used i5-2500 and change the GPU to a GTX 1050Ti.

Will this be good enough for playing these games: Rise of Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Battlefield 1.

Any help and recommendations will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Any i7 from that platform will do for battlefield 1 as it like to have more than 4 threads. It would be a nice combo with the gtx1050ti. Do watch out that you don't get a i7 2x00s because those run much slower than the normal ones.

Hi,

Don't listen to the other guy suggesting you get a rx470 or even the gtx 1050Ti like you said, games such as Battlefield 1 are cpu bound.

My old system had a i5-750 and HD7950 (about the same as a gtx660) in it. With this PC I was unable to play Battlefield 1 at lowwest settings and 1080p above 30 fps. So to prove to people that the CPU was the problem I bought a GTX 1070 which gave me NO preformance boosts whatsoever, this is because the CPU couldn't handle the GPU.
Now I have a i5-7600K I haven't found a game that I can't run at max settings at 1080p bellow 100fps

So in conclusion I recomend that you upgrade your CPU to a 6th or 7th generation one and hold on to your GPU for a little while if you want to save some money.

That'll be out of my budget and i don't wanna wait so long.

However, i don't completely agree with you on a 6th or 7th gen cpu being so necessary. The i5-750 is a pretty weak cpu so that makes some sense in the problem you were having with BF1. I remember those old Q9650 chips slightly outperforming that 1st gen i5. But i don't think that a 2nd gen i5 or i7 is the same case. One of my friends uses a i5-2400 with a GTX960 and he plays Battlefield 1 med-high 1080p with 50-60fps.

You directly jumped from a 1st gen i5 to a 7th gen without using anything in between so i don't think you really know that those older 2nd and 3rd gen chips aren't as bad as you think they are.

Well yeah, the i5-750 is trash, but the i7-2600 isn't. Next to a powerful CPU you still need a good graphics card. The game is both CPU and GPU intensive.

You're not going to last long in a forum if one if your first posts says ''Don't listen to that guy, he has no idea''.

Also, the RX 470 4GB does 60+ fps on ultra in BF1:

See how high the i7-2600(k) is in this list? Tell me I have no clue now.

Also if you can oc the i7 2600k you can easily get it to 4.8 and it then wipes the floor with any new cpu at stock.

So as far as I can see, would I be able to play battlefield easily with HD7870 and i7-920 ?

1. Please don't hijack a thread
2. no unless you oc it a lot. The 920 at stock won't be able to keep up.
