I had recently fixed my old core 2 duo Toshiba satellite A300-1g5 unit. Had a copy windows 8.1 lying and so installed because i used a new hard drive for the laptop to use it for programming purposes. I created a live usb for ubuntu and tried to enter the bios settings in the laptop, F12 key for this laptop upon booting but cannot enter bios at all times. It seems to happen out of luck when i installed windows 8 like one out of 20 tries. It just does not enter bios and boots straight into windows 8.1 on the hard drive. Windows 8.1 runs fine though, any fixes might be appreciated or is there any third party software for booting from usb/dvd/etc on booting apart from using bios as i cannot seem to enter it at all now. Thanks in advance!

EDIT:I am new to this site so if details missing please post in the comments i will update as soon as possible.

I am sorry that you understood it in the wrong way. The point is I am presented with the option F12 to go into bios on booting but when i press F12 it does nothing and proceeds to boot to windows. The options are shown though, it just that nothing happens when i press the key required to go into the bios.

Have you verified the f12 key is not broken?

Yeah it is NOT broken as i use it for my shortcuts on the ide that i use to code and i have found a workaround. Apparently you have to hold the button to go into bios before pressing the power button, worked 3 out of 5 times i tried so I can boot into bios now. Thanks for the fast reply.
