I'm going to be building me a itx case to use for when i travel so i don't have to carry around my full tower and can't decide on a case. I prefer the console type shaped ones and my favorite so far is the fractal design node 202, but i was wondering if there was anything better or if the cube shaped ones are better or more portable.

All depends on the hardware going in it and what you want it to be able to do. The node 202 looks decently compact.

Cube chassis do allow for full size power supplies usually. So there are no real limits on the power of the hardware you can cram in there. Of course with power comes weight.

There is always a gaming laptop if you are seeking decent performance and portability.

what kind of travel? Air travel you can use an RVZ01B, though you'll need a larger backpack and might have to check it for smaller flights (I bought a pelican case for mine, locked it with TSA locks, and just checked it for a flight to Africa and back)https://pcpartpicker.com/b/pwNNnQ. Here it is inside the pelican case https://cdn.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/174048.80ba195ec8032ea314642078966a484e.b51a463cdddb08ca2595f907cbb2ce39.1600.jpg

For land travel I'd recommend the Corsair 380T, great case with a carrying handle; built one of those for my brother since he travels a lot throughout the week https://pcpartpicker.com/b/fXccCJ. There are really small cases like the Dan A4 case, but you are basically on a waiting list so not great if you want to build soon.

Node 202 owner here. What CPU are planning on jamming in it? Personally I've found, despite other peoples reports, that a full 91w CPU is to much for it. I get thermal throttled all the time on intensive tasks. GPU is fine though.

The Silverstone RVZ01B, or one of its variants, is probably a better case in that form factor. Though the node looks better IMO.

The smallest case, though I'm not sure you can actually buy one right now, is the Dan A4.

Personally I'm going to get rid of my 202 at some point this year and switch over to the NCASE M1. Which frankly is the god of ITX with just how much you can cram into it despite it's small foot print. It is expensive though :(

The best for console style (as most have mentioned) are the Silverstone RVZ01b, RVZ02, ML series, FTZ01 cases, the Fractal Design Node 202, the Dr. Zaber Sentry, and the Azza Z Mini (not sure if there's any I missed?).
For tiny in general, there's also the Dan A4, NCASE M1, Silverstone SG series, multiple from Lian-Li, Rosewill RS-MI-01, and Cooler Master Elite series (I'm sure I missed many more there).

I plan on putting an i5 6400 and a gtx 970 ssc acx2.0+ i looked at the core v1 and my gpu will fit in outer chassis but not in the inner chassis what does that mean and obviously i will be using an itx build and for travel i will just be taking it between my parents house which is a few hour trip every few weeks
