I'm looking to build a new desktop for photo and video editing. I have 2 Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 CPUs. Should I attempt to sell them and get a i7-6700k or 7700k? If I keep them what Asus motherboard you recommend? If I kept them I was looking at the Asus Z10PE-D16 WS LGA2011-v3 or Asus TUFF SABERTOOTH X99 LGA2011-V3. I am starting from scratch and only have the 2 CPUs.

Solution
I suspect that a new 7700K is your best path. Much faster core speed and has same number of threads. Also, dual CPU is not twice as much computing power.

Also to consider would be a Broadwell-E build with a 6800K. Better workstation CPU although it is $100 more. But you will get 12 threads over 8 which is important in photo/video editing.

If I had to choose mobo's I would go for the Z10PE-D16 but both are good boards.
