Hi all,

I have a problem with the transfer speed with my nas, my sat receiver has a 2.5" 500gb hdd and the transfer speed between my laptop is around 40mb/s over a 5ghz wifi but the transfer speed between my laptop and the nas is only 20mb/s all are connected to the same modem and the transfers goes to the same laptop. does anyone know if i can resolve this? Both also are ipv6 configured and both are gigabit enabled. The lan cable is a cat 5e and the lan cable of the sat receiver is longer then the lan cable of the nas and both have the same lan cable. and both the nas and sat receiver are Linux based.

The hardware:

Sat Reciever: Vu+ Solo2
Nas: D-link Dns-320L
Modem: 24*8 DOC 3 WIRELESS(DOCSIS) provided by my provider.

Solution
You get what you pay for. The NAS has much weaker CPU (which is responsible for accepting data off the LAN interface and passing it to the disk interface). If you have enabled any RAID, and the NAS does not have hardware support for it, it will slow down as well.

According to these tests, you are getting what this device was designed for. Skip to page 17, then scroll way down to see where 320L stands.

There is no difference between Cat5/6 and length of the cable in performance tests.

Thanks, I did not think in that way, yeah this nas is cheap, i'm only using it for media steaming, so for me all is good, bud i wondered why i would be slower then the sat receiver.

Yes the sat receiver is powerful cpu: duo 1.3Ghz, ram: 1Gb, Hdd: 2.5" Toshiba MQ01ABD050 Sata300, So not the fastest hdd, and the hdd from the nas came from an external Usb3.0 enclosure and i got speeds of 90Mb/s on the Usb3, so i would say the hdd from the nas is faster but is limited by the cpu capacity from the nas.

Yes i did, also ntfs cannot be used in the dns-320l as it is a linux based system, ntfs only works for the usb port, i think the file system is ext4, also i get 20mb over the wifi so i guess that is not bad then.
