I have started getting an error message in Windows "IP address conflict". This only shows up on 1 of my desktop PCs

I have done the "Stupid" easy fixes

1. Power everything off. Wait 60 seconds, power the router. Then power the PC in question. after a couple of minutes, the error box pops up.

2. Renew in IPConfig
ipconfig /flush dns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig renew

wait a couple of minutes, error box pops up.

3. Log into the FIOS gateway and look at everything connected.

There are no conflicting IP addresses listed

4. Go into my control panel / networking and check properties for IPV4
verify settings obtain IP address automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically.

So, I am stumped. If there was an IP address duplication, I assume I would see it when I check my router to look at whats connected.

I need some help: I will list my current network details below. Please note, I have not added anything to this network for several months, but the error just started showing up in the last week.

Thanks.

My network:
FIOS Gateway router
2 desktop PCs connected by Ethernet, 1 laptop connecting wirelessly (All running windows 7)
Actiontec Network Extender and Ethernet Over Coax Adapter (From Verizon connected by coax)
Cannon wifi printer
Trane Wifi thermostat.
3 FIOS Set Top Boxes
D-link Network attached Storage

I have rebooted everything several times. Router, computers, laptop. I have even powered everything down. Powered up the router. Then powered up only the computer showing the error. The error shows up, even when the other computers are powered off....

A possibility is that a device on your network has somehow been assigned a static IP address within the DHCP scope. The device would not show up in your router's device list since it was not assigned an address by the router. Your PC may have recently been assigned this same IP address via DHCP, which may be why you are only now seeing a conflict.

You might consider using an IP address scanning application (e.g. Angry IP Scanner) to help discover which device may be causing the conflict.

I downloaded Angry IP scanner as you suggested. After running it, the report shows that it found all of the items on my network, as listed in my scan of the router. and no duplicated IP addresses.

Was getting the same thing on a windows 7 PC. It was the only PC that kept saying there was an IP conflict

This PC has Win10 on it

Had to go to event viewer to see what it logged.

I knew it wasn't an IPv4 ip, because I gave the PC's here static ips.

Only found out last night, it was talking about an IPv6 ip address. WTF.

So, in the end I unticked IPv6 under the wireless adapter properties on both computers

I think the prob is this crap modem (for Fibre). Never had the same prob with ADSL

Or there's a prob with Win7 computers with some update

That is good input. I am convinced this is not a run of the mill IP address conflict. There is some software issue or bug. all of my computers are Win 7, so that may be a clue. I will look into IP6 and poke around some more.

I dont know if it's a Win 7 prob.

It MAYBE a Win10 update prob. Because last mth (I think) people had DHCP probs with Win10

BUT, Win10 has been updated since

But here it maybe this crap modem, because, as above it never happened (I had no ip conflicts at all), with ADSL

Only thing is, if you use Homegroup, if you disable IPv6, I think it kills Homegroup too (I don't use it myself)

Just to follow up, and close the loop. This error was caused by the VPN I use for work to connect into my work network. It took corporate IT a while to diagnose and fix it.

Thanks to those who offered constructive help.
