I am OCing my i7 7700k at 5ghz with 1.38v using the Intel Stress Test and getting around 79-82c max I'm wondering if thats a good temp for stress testing the cpu?
Kaby lake runs hot based on what I've seen. With 1.38 vCore running IBT, your temp is actually really good. My 7700K was delidded, has H100i v2 water cooler, and runs 5G at 1.375 vCore. My max temp is 71C when running IBT at maximum setting. Before delidding, my 7700K maxed out at 100C even when running IBT at 1.30V.
That's pretty high... I'm wondering what the temp in your room it... If it is winter were you are, you might have some trouble in Summer... :0 What cooler are you using?

are you doing direct die cooling or did you just replace the ihs thermal paste?

I put the IHS back on (no glue, just rely on the socket clip). I used CLU on both the silicon and the cooler. Under the same full load, my before and after numbers showed 31C decrease.

I read on the net that the PCB from Kaby Lake and Skylake is much thinner and easier to damage whether you use the blade method or the vise method. So I found some 1/4" thick acrylic sheets in my basement and made a delidder myself similar to the commercial product. Just put it on a vice and push the block at the bottom to pop off the IHS. Not difficult at all.

I have 7700K and h100i v2 cooler, temps are not stable.,, normal load temps are 40-45, gaming temps are 65-70

Yeah, I was talking about delidding. That is, to remove the stock IHS (integrated heat sink) and replace the Intel thermal compound with a custom one... If you have no idea what it is, then it's probably not a good idea to do it.
