Need wifi relocation help

I have a cable modem and router upstairs and the tech has run an Ethernet cable downstairs for me . I want to set up the wifi downstairs because I have a limited wifi signal downstairs. Wife's computer work from home is hard wired upstairs. What do I need to put a wifi modem down here?

You need a wifi access point. You can purchase a dedicated wifi access point, like this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122917&cm_re=wifi_access_point-_-33-122-917-_-Product or you can buy another router and configure it as a wifi access point. If you go with a new router, before you buy it, just be sure that it specifically says that it can be configured as a wifi access point.

I agree with @Scottray. You only have one ethernet cable upstairs-to-downstairs and your REQUIRE wired connectivity upstairs. You have to leave your primary router where it is. That means you need a second WIFI source. An access point or a router acting as an access point is the answer. So I can plug the Ethernet cable into any of the ports to connect to the router upstairs? I have 90 Mbps hard wired but only 6 mps downstairs with wifi

You got it. Note that you'll need to configure the accesspoint/router first. Follow the instructions in the manual or online. It will tell you how to set it as an access point, give it an SSID name and wifi password. Then, connect the access point/router downstairs to any open LAN port on your upstairs router using an ethernet cable. Then you'll have as good of wifi signal downstairs, as you do upstairs.
