So I just got a new sshd, never had one before and formatted both the HDD and the SSD cache inside. Did I mess up? Do I have to set up the acceleration myself with Intel Rapid Storage now or will the disk still send heated data to the cache. Any help is appreciated.

The 8 Gb of flash memory you find on a SSHD drive does not strictly work in the same manner as a pure SSD drive you buy.

It is as you said set up to be a cache.
The algorithm of the drive via the firmware simply takes note of the most frequently run programs of the Mechanical side of the drive and then stores it on the 8 gb of Nand flash for faster running and loading.

When you format the drive only the Mechanical side of it should be accessed to format it Vaz
Still if you did format the 8 Gb nand flash.

All it will mean is it will take a day or so before any frequently launched program from the Mechanical side of the hybrid drive to be stored on the 8Gb flash nand used for faster loading.
Once the algorithm works out for example to...

Once the algorithm works out for example to store windows Os on it for faster loading times.

I have a Seagate 2.5" SSHD drive here and did the same thing and it took about a day or two for the boot time of windows os to get back to the 12 second loading times.

It worked fine after that, and is still working the way it should storing the most frequently used programs in the 8Gb Nand flash for faster loading.

You just need to give it a few days to re adjust and re learn.
