I'm stuck at choosing between two laptops in my budget.

The XPS 15 vs the Inspiron 7000 gaming

One big factor is that the XPS (in the link) has a core i5 7300, and the Inspiron (in the link) has aa core i7 7700. Both quad core 7th gen CPUs.

How much of a difference will they make performance-wise? Will the difference be significant enough to give up on the premium build of the XPS and opt for the Inspiron?

Urgh, I posted a reply and I just got the ''404 error'' because the thread got removed.

Anyways, another minute of my time won't be a disaster I guess:

The XPS has got better build quality, Thunderbolt 3 support, better trackpad (One of the best on the market) and more screen options.

Just depends on what it'll mean for your money pouch if you go with the XPS, but it has improvements over the Inspiron model.
The i7 has hyper-threading, so has eight logical cores versus the i5's four, so if you are doing CPU intensive tasks and using multi-threaded applications there'll be a big difference. It also has a 128GB SSD compared to the XPS' 32Gb one (which isnt any use for anything) and a 1050Ti compared to the XPS' 1050. Quite a big difference between those cards.

Would be a no-brainer for me. Wouldn't be bothered about Thunderbolt or USB 3.1.

Why do you have a separate site with a different name if two of the same questions posted on them will be considered as spam?

I believe there are technically two sites that go to the same spot but have different looks. That being said, they go to the same spot.

Was incredibly confused because I got the 404 error on both of the posts I was looking at. Here was the post I was going to paste.

Out of the two, easily the Inspiron based purely on specs but the reviews about the panel are less than satisfying, and as said above the XPS has added features that the inspiron does not... But, for +-$100 on Amazon I've found multiple laptops that are much better spec wise for the money you're paying for it. Why go with a Dell gaming laptop?

Wasn't planning on it. I was just always a fan of XPS and wanted an XPS laptop, ever since they got the "infinity-edge" display.

I just ran into the Inspiron while browsing the Dell site, AFTER ordering the XPS, and got blown away by the specs. And the fact that Dell also made it look good this year, just threw me off my original decision.

What are these other laptops that you're talking about?

Oh lol. That's because the link was from the Dell Canada site.

So would you say these 2 laptops are the right choice given the budget?

Because if you go to the ''home'' tab on Tom's Hardware you can already see every new thread created across all sub sections. We can see your thread on the home page, not just in that particular section :p.
