Hello dear folks of tomshardware.
I've had this issue recently where my screen will just go black on startup after the BIOS screen with a blinking underscore line on top left. Pressing any buttons has no effect.
The interesting thing is though, that this happened after I plugged in a new mouse. The problem was gone when I unplugged the mouse and rebooted.
I've installed the mouse driver and have successfully rebooted after that. The issue happens only when I plug the mouse in. My previous mouse was connected with a usb plug while this one's PS/2. So, how can I use this mouse without getting the black screen ? Any help is really appreciated!

Mouse - Genius XScroll
OS - Win 7

I wonder if its bringing you to the uefi command shell. If you can type, type in help and hit enter
If that gets a response then I suspect the uefi has detected the hardware change and is preventing boot. Try turning off secure boot in the bios.
Seems odd that they would block boot with a change of the mouse hardware though. LoL

It's actually more comfortable for me. It's my old mouse that wouldn't work on my old pc cause it had a broken port (I checked it with another working mouse) But now I have a new pc and want to try it. Pins don't seem to be bent from what I can see.

Seems an easy fix - - just buy a USB mouse which is comfortable.

Then try that PS/2 mouse an a different PC - - if it causes the same or similar problem there, bin it.

One last thought - - you are plugging that PS/2 mouse in to the correct PS/2 port I trust?
(green port for mouse, purple port for keyboard).
