I've been in a rut of mainly just playing MOBA games which arent very intensive one my hardware, but I have tried playing modern games such as Overwatch and realised my PC performance is quite poor (not a solid 60 on low), so my question is - to keep a relatively steady 60 on games such as Overwatch, what parts of my computer are the weakest - Also if I was to upgrade could you please recommend AMD cpus, even though I've been told time and time again intel is mostly superior (like would it be a good idea to get a AMD FX-8370E and if so do I need to buy a stronger fan etc.)

Specs -

CPU - AMD FX 4150
GPU - sus GeForce GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2GB PCI Express
8GB RAM (unsure as to what brand or how old, looking into replacing soon anyways)
PSU - Corsair CXM 750w
(the motherboard is quite an old Gigabyte one, Im assuming Id need to upgrade this along with the cpu too or is that not necessary)

Thanks ^^

Solution
only if you upgrade to Bios F3 on your motherboard. (should be your first Step before buying anything)
Gigabyte says it need to be F3 on the web site : http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4305

Also 8BZ mentioned you need to make sure you have the right board in this case Rev 4.1 for this 8350 CPU will work on it.

if those 2 things match, then you can get that FX 8350 to work with your board.
or get a new Intel CPU ,board and ram. as he showed earlier.

Bios can be downloaded from http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#bios
Oh I don't know.... overwatch recommended (not minimum) specs are
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660 or AMD Radeon™ HD 7950 or better .

It all depends what you INTEND to do and in how close or far a future you intend to do it.
if your looking to do a full upgrade soon, then save cash and get a shiny new one video card included.
if your strap for cash and want to do it by steps personally I would ditch the FX4xxx amd and mobo and get a nice I5-6500/mobo with 8Gb Ram.

Slapping a 1060 on a FX4150 series CPU isn't going to radically improve his gaming experience...
not anymore than slapping a 1060 on a Duo Core 2 Quad Q6600 and make it great again.
the FX 4150 will bottleneck the 1060 , will it be better, sure... great.. nah.

what country and budget your looking at for "first upgrade"

thanks for the response, I am from the UK, and I could probably push for a budget of around £400, maybe £450 at a stretch - so I could most likely get a decent 1060 within that price range, but is it possible to get a solid processor and new motherboard for the remaining 200 or so thatd be leftover :)? (im quite new to the whole hardware upgrading so apologies for the very dumb questions).

for 200Quid you could Upgrade your FX4150 to something like a Fx8xxx series if your mother board permits it (would need make/model of it), you can run SPECCY or HWINFO and copy paste first page it displays about your motherboard would only take a moment to check

here is an example of what I am talking about. I copy your specs and took cheapest gigabyte board for it ...

If that mobo is a 760g chipset, it won't handle any of the 125w FX Cpus, it's restricted to the 95w cpus, which means an fx6300 or at best (if allowed by bios) an 8320E or 8370E.

At best, you are trying to use band-aids on a cut that needs stitches. For your budget a move to Intel is the only viable option, other than used components from ebay. To purchase new amd parts is cost prohibitive.

You could go slightly cheaper (£30 for a 3G instead of 6G gpu, but not really recommended)

Hmm, you are right, missed that. Still, unless it's a decent mobo, 970 or 990Fx, bios won't allow for the 8 core 125w, even if it does allow the 4 core 125's. Simply won't recognize them. Even the latest bios doesn't recognize the E on some of those 760g chipsets. So a lot rides on exactly what cheap Gigabyte board op has and does the bios recognize the cpu. Hate to see op spend out on a decent cpu, that won't work on the board, requiring a new mobo and putting him way over budget.

no argument, why I started with.. whats the make/model of board and the examples where "ideas what could be done"
and I love you brought the other side (intel) in play, more options to consider.

I like amd, honestly do, I think Intel has for too long just been giving little tweaks to performance just to keep the devs happy. AMD has thrown in some serious innovations, first 6core,first 8core etc, and I like that about them. So I get wanting to believe in a little loyalty. So, I hope this works. Paladins thoughts on the subject are spot on, IF all the ducks are in a row, you'll be good. And happy with that fx for a while longer. So here's me hoping your ducks'll line up.

thanks very much for all the help, I do indeed have the 4.1 revision so I can go ahead and get these parts in.
