Upgrade to i7 for streaming

Hello,
I have i5 2500, gtx 970 and 12 GB of ram. I have been streaming lately, and it was okay with not demanding titles. When it comes to GTA 5, I drop frames during my gameplay, so its unplayable (without streaming I can get 40~ fps on high settings). As I have 2 motherboards on the 1155 socket, should I upgrade to the highest cpu for it (i7 3770) or is it not worth it? Will there be a huge performance difference with streaming or will I simply not see it? I'm talking about overall value to the money I have to pay for it. Or should I just change my socket and buy a different CPU? I'm really on a crossroads right now, please help!

Sure, you would see some difference stepping up to the i7-3770. The issue might be cost to find a couple of the older CPUs compared to the relative performance increase and how much it would cost to step up to a more current system altogether.

I think the biggest difference you would see would be when streaming where the i7 would be stronger, in typical use, you would see little difference.

You need to verify CPU compatibility with each make/model motherboard to know what your upgrade options are. The manufacturer's support site for your make/model motherboard should list the CPU's compatible with them (and whether any BIOS updates are required before upgrading the actual CPU).

What is the make/model of the motherboards in question?

Also, you can't simply change the socket. You would have to replace the motherboards altogether to use anything other than the Socket 1155 CPUs you are using now. You would also need to upgrade to DDR4 memory, in all likelihood as well.

Yeah, when I said changing socket I knew it equals changing motherboard, thought it was obvious :p I have Asrock H61M-VG3 and Gigabyte h61ma-d2v, both LGA 1155. As I stated in the first post, the "best or highest" CPU for it is i7 3770. The thing is will I feel the difference between my i5 2500 and the i7 3770? Change the socket (and motherboard obv :p) to another? When I look at prices of LGA 2011, the motherboard itself costs almost the same as a used i7 3770.

Even while streaming? The thing is I want to have smooth gameplay and not worry about lowering my graphic settings. For that what would I need? In terms of CPU. Like the lowest cost cpu and a motherboard :p When I play GTA, currently with my 2500 and gtx 970, gpu usage is at 50% and cpu is 90-100, so I guess that my CPU is bottlenecking.

So. In conclusion, I should get a new mobo and another CPU. When I compared these two, the 3770 had better single core score, thought it was enough. Guess I will have to settle for older games, thanks for the help COLGeek.
