My friends parents are getting rid of their "old" PC. I looked at specs and it had an i7 2600. Would this be I viable CPU for gaming still. I realize I would need new MOBO, but would it still be decent. I currently have FX8320e and gtx 1060 3gb.

Viable, yes. The i7-2600 is still a decent CPU for today's games.

Worth it? That depends quite a bit. Although you could reuse the RAM & CD/DVD drive from your current build, & (as long as you're OK with backing up your files & reinstalling Windows) you can also reuse the HDD/SSD, you'd have to get a brand-new motherboard that would be compatible. Those boards are harder to find nowadays, since new ones aren't being built. And that particular chip isn't going to provide a whole lot of benefit over your FX-8320e system.

Since they're getting rid of the "old" PC, though, see if they're willing to part with the whole system. It would at least be good as a 2nd/backup system for your current one.
