Hi everyone I'm new here I have the AMD FX 8350 i built this computer three years ago and for some games I used to play they just freeze and I have to shut off my computer

My GPU is the Asís Overclocked GTX 760 and i still have never touched the over clocked settings so I know that's not the problem and this card can easily handle rocket league and CS GO where it freezes

I KNOW it's the CPU I have the stock cooler and I'm sure the stock cooler for this processor is probably the problem but I haven't touched my computer for three years so I'm worried I would do more damage if I take off the fan and put on another one maybe you guys can give me some good fans for my processor and some tips to take it off without doing damage I don't want the overheating to damage my cpu and if it helps my motherboard is the Asus M5A97 R2.0 thanks!

hyper evo 212 cpu cooler will be fine for you to use. take it to a store if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. don't really want to give tips on removing the current fan but i would have thought someone on this forum would have offered their advice to be honest already.

can you hear or see the fan spinning ? i had a stock cooler that came intermittent from new. i tried to run a game and the opening cut scene took an age to load.. was very laggy and then froze. when i opened the case and powered the pc back up.. after it shut itself down due to overheating.. i noticed that then fan would only spin some of the time even though it was set to full speed in the bios. it did not damage the cpu and if the problem is overheating for you.. as long as you haven't been using it since then hopefully the cpu is ok. but nothing is guaranteed although i wouldn't panic.

Yes the fan Is definitely going loud very loud I'm going to buy the cooler and place it myself real soon I'll take off the thermal paste from the CPU and reapply it when I get the new cooler

if i were you i would repost about the problem in the systems subsection rather than cpu. i would leave out the bit about knowing it is the cpu.. because AMD stock coolers are notoriously noisy! well the older ones anyway. because the fan is working it could be something as simple as a software issue or even dust! i would change the thread title to "system freezing during gaming". , if someone then comes up with a solution it's saved you some money..if not.. nothing lost. some people get put off from helping people when they see "i know" because they think the person won't listen to any advice they have to give.. so just skip the thread.
