Power without CPU

I just bought a new motherboard and am waiting for the CPU to arrive. I installed the motherboard with everything connected, and with the CPU being the only thing that is missing. If I press the power button, all the fans and lights come on for a second and then the computer turns off. Is this normal? I understand that I won't get a BIOS screen or anything, but I thought that the fans and lights would at least stay on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up! Was just a bit worried that the motherboard might not work as I paid quite a lot for it. Couldn't wait for the CPU to get here. My impatience got the better of me lol.
